Parental Advisory '08 Sells Big
» Posted on September.13.2008
Parental Advisory was advertised as the biggest pay per view in PDW history and it came a long, long way from disappointment. A show that was originally scheduled to have four championship belts on the line actually saw all five championships being contested as during the show Pete Ebdon was stripped of the Prodigy Championship and the scheduled number one contendership match was made in to a championship match where former Prodigy Championship contender Drake Benjamin took on PDW newcomer Joseph “The Za” Zaza, adding to the already scheduled championship matches which saw former Cyber Champion Christy Matthews and Echo Rayne challenge new Cyber Champion Catalina Benjamin, former Next Big Thing Champion Inferno and Giovianni Aries challenge new champion Draven, Julian Dark and Citizen Truth challenge Bloodshed Champion Nicholas Jaxx and Steve Jason and Pete Ebdon face off for the vacant Platinum Championship.

The hype going in to the show was extraordinary and one question was answered early on with the return of Star Deveraux, who’d been absent for the past several weeks dealing with personal issues and leaving the company in the hands of her sister Angelique and the general manager Blake Selters. Star’s return wasn’t unnoticed by the roster, including newcomer El Fantastico who gave our returning owner a lick to the face.

Speaking of newcomers, a debut four way match took place at Parental Advisory between Maria Sky, Anna Moore, Gabe Reno – known as The Radical – and the man named Rayn which saw Reno and Rayn put on an amazing showing ultimately ending in Rayn capturing the victory. Then, in arguably the single most insane match in PDW history, we got to witness the PDW debut of “The Fantastic One” El Fantastico, who took on the PDW employee with the worst luck in the company in Jack Nation. Nation’s luck officially turned when he gained the pin-fall, but it’s worth the price of the replay just to see how this insane match came to its conclusion. Further debuts were that of Nathan Slade, a former shoot fighter in Japan with a bad reputation coming in. Selters signed him to a contract, but what does Slade have in store for PDW? Only time will tell.

Other highlights of the show include Tomoko Hanahara’s victory in the Cyber Championship #1 contenders tag match, Christy Matthews gaining her second reign as Cyber Champion after a controversial ending to the Iron Woman Match, Raziel defeating Kindred London in a brutal I Quit match, Inferno regaining his Next Big Thing Championship over Draven and Giovianni Aries in a Last Man Standing Elimination match, The Za overcoming Drake Benjamin to capture the vacated Prodigy Championship – vacated earlier in the show when Shara Baptiste took it off the shoulder of Pete Ebdon – and then showing up after Nicholas Jaxx defeated Citizen Truth and Julian Dark to retain his Bloodshed Championship to form with Jaxx a new team, the “Super Awesome Wang Friends”, and finally Pete Ebdon overcoming Steve Jason to win the vacant Platinum Championship in the Platinum Survival main event match.

The show will forever be remembered perhaps for two things on complete opposite ends of the spectrum. The Naked Truth hosts Playboy cover was revealed featuring Dayshia Raye and upcoming replacement for former Naked Truth host Aurora Snow, Colleen Collins. The same segment also saw fans witness a whole new side to Angelique Deveraux as she posed for a raunchy photoshoot of her own that the fans won’t soon forget. To contrast that however the ending of the show saw the return of John Raide, who may had presumed dead after he was thrown from a balcony in the Dynasty Spectrum several weeks earlier, as he decimated the Pantheon to stand over the fallen body of the man who thought he’d rid the company of Raide forever. What will the future hold for John Raide now that he’s back, and how will the new Platinum Champion Pete Ebdon respond to the fact that the man he thought dead has apparently returned better than ever? Find out on this week’s exciting episode of Disclosure, live on MTV2 on Tuesday.
